Perambur Vicariate Jubilee Celebration for Catholic Couples

Growing in Fidelity, Family Mission, and the Christian Education of Youth
Held on 14th November at Tisen Christ Church, Peravallur

The Perambur Vicariate joyfully organized a meaningful Jubilee Celebration on 14th November 2025  at Risen Christ Church, Peravallur, for couples celebrating 10, 25, and 50 years of married life. This beautiful gathering reaffirmed the Christian vision of the family as the “domestic Church,” highlighting the sacred mission of couples in forming their children and contributing to the well-being of society.

Morning Sessions: Deepening Family Vocation

The morning was enriched by sessions led by the Parish Priests of the  Vicariate and invited speakers:

  • Rev. Fr. Gnanadas offered insights on the psychological dimensions of family life, noting that emotional understanding, communication, and mutual respect are essential to marital harmony.

  • Rev. Fr. Arul Raja, SJ spoke on the importance of the Word of God in the family.
    He reminded the couples that:
“A family that prays together stays together.” (Salesian Tradition)
Scripture, he emphasized, is the anchor that shapes Christian living and guides parents in nurturing faith in their children.

Afternoon Animation: Strengthening Family Mission

In the afternoon, the couples were divided into three groups for interactive formation.

Rev. Fr. John Christie, SDB, Salesian Youth Ministry Delegate, animated one group with powerful reflections on:

  • The importance of family life as the domestic Church

  • The influence of Christian families in society

  • Marital fidelity as a reflection of Christ’s love

  • The challenges of raising children in a rapidly changing world

About 60–65 participants engaged actively, reflecting on their role as parents, guides, and witnesses of Christian values.

Salesian Reflections on Family and Youth

Fr. Christie enriched the session with core teachings from St. John Bosco:

  • “The family is the greatest and most precious of human treasures.”

  • “Without affection, there is no confidence; without confidence, no education.”

  • “It is not enough to love the young; they must know that they are loved.”

These highlighted that the first Preventive System begins at home—through loving presence, guidance, and dialogue.

Church Teaching on the Family

The themes of the day reflected foundational teachings of the Church:

  • Familiaris Consortio (St. John Paul II):
“The family is the first and vital cell of society.”

  • Amoris Laetitia (Pope Francis):
“The family is the place where faith is learned, lived, and handed on.”

  • Gaudium et Spes 48:
“The family is a school of deeper humanity.”

Families thus become the first educators in faith, values, and human maturity.

A Solemn and Festive Eucharistic Celebration

The day concluded with a grand Thanksgiving Mass presided over by
His Grace, Rt. Rev. Dr. George, Archbishop of Madras–Mylapore.

He acknowledged and blessed the couples for their witness of fidelity, unity, and love—gifts that strengthen the life of the Church.

Organizers and Collaborators

This vibrant event was coordinated by:
Rev. Fr. M. Arulraj, Vicar Forane, Parish Priest of Peravallur
together with dedicated lay leaders responsible for family ministries in the parishes and the Vicariate.

A Celebration of Faith, Fidelity, and Family Mission

The Jubilee gathering was a joyful, colourful, and grace-filled celebration—bringing together couples from across the Vicariate to renew their commitment to each other, to their children, and to the mission of building a stronger Church and society.
